Scholarship
The “Honoring Our Heroes’ Children” scholarship began in 2018 and has awarded over $18,000 towards higher education since. The $2,000 scholarship serves as an opportunity to give back to the families of first responders and military service members by extending the application to apply for a grant towards higher education.
The 2026 application period will open soon. All applications must be submitted by April 14, 2026.
2025 Tunnel to Towers Event Recap
5K Run & Walk - Columbia, SC
The 2025 Tunnel To Towers 5K welcomed over 2,400 participants, volunteers, First Responders and Military Service members to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. With participants from across South Carolina, we’ve raised over $142,000 in 2025 to support the Tunnel To Towers Foundation in its mission to never forget the sacrifice of Stephen Siller and all who dedicated their lives to serving our country on 9/11/01.
What’s next: The 15th annual Tunnel 2 Towers South Carolina 5K Run/Walk will take place on September 4th, 2026. Registration opens on April 4th. Additional ticketing info can be found here.

Each year, we take a moment to honor those who were lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001, as well as local heroes who have sacrificed their lives in service to the community and country since that time through a Morning of Remembrance Ceremony on September 11th.

We pay special tribute to Circle Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chad Thatcher and Firefighter Landon Bodie, who lost their lives responding to an emergency during Hurricane Helene. To Trooper Dennis Ricks of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. To Richland County Sheriff Department K9s Bumi and Kodak who were lost in the line of duty.
The 2026 Morning of Remembrance Ceremony will take place on Friday, September 11th, 2026 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The ceremony will begin at approx 8:40am.

Since being founded in 2012, the 9/11 Remembrance Foundation of South Carolina honors fallen Military Service Members and First Responders through fundraising for local projects, scholarships, and national foundations that support them and their families.
“Scouting Night” For Local Scouts BSA Troops
Firefighters from the Columbia Fire Department had the opportunity to attend and present to scouts the importance of First Responders and Military Service Members, as well as the importance of remembering and memorializing the attacks of September 11th, 2001.
