Mike Sonefeld

Vice Chairman / Director of Marketing

Chief Irmo Fire Department

Mr. Sonefeld has been working in the fire service in South Carolina for 40 years and currently works at the Irmo Fire district as its fire chief (29 years as chief). He obtained his training from the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, MD. and the South Carolina Fire Academy in Columbia.

David Kerr

Vice Chairman / Director of Operations

Mr. David Kerr has been affiliated with the Tunnel to Towers SC 5K Run and Walk since its inception in 2013. He joined the 9/11 Remembrance Foundation of South Carolina in September 2017.

Mr. Kerr currently works for Michelin's Lexington Manufacturing Site and served this community for 10 years as the Director of Emergency Services for Lexington County after his retirement from the United States Army, as a Major, at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in 2011. Mr. Kerr entered Basic Military Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1989 and served in Germany, Bosnia, Kuwait, Panama, the Republic of Korea, Iraq, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Stateside.

Mr. Kerr’s military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, as well as the U.S. and Australian Parachutist Badges. He holds a master’s degree from Webster University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland-University College

Laurie Stokes

Director of Volunteers

Laurie Stokes has worked with the 9/11 Remembrance Foundation since 2011. She is responsible for coordinating and managing volunteers at our various events and activities.

She is currently an Instructional Assistant for Special Education (High Support) in Lexington School District 1, a scout leader in the Indian Waters Council, Boy Scouts of America, where she has received the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver award (the highest award for a scout volunteer a council can bestow). Ms. Stokes has a Bachelors of Arts in English Literature from the University of South Carolina (1992), and holds a certification in Inclusive Recreation,

Dawn Yamashiro

Public Relations & 9/11 Family Member

Dawn E Yamashiro joined the 9/11 Remembrance Foundation in its inception in January 2017 and serves in Public Relations.

As a person who lost her brother in the World Trade Center on 9/11, she has been involved in the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K since it started here in Columbia, SC. She is focused on giving back to the community that supported her for many years. Dawn received her bachelor's degree in Government and International Relations from the University of South Carolina.

Jared Evans

Executive Director of Veterans & Military Affairs

Jared Evans joined the 9/11 Remembrance Foundation in December of 2017 as a founding board member.

He currently works for the University of South Carolina and serves on multiple non-profit boards that support veterans and military-related initiatives. He received a MBA & Bachelor’s degree in Sport & Entertainment Management from the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Aubrey L. Sejuit

Foundation Secretary

Aubrey L. Sejuit, Ph.D., LISW-CP, LCAS, MEd, is a former tenured Assistant Professor of Social Work and a Counselor for the Sib Collins Counseling Center at Limestone University.  She is the current National Association of Social Work-South Carolina Chapter (NASW-SC) President and serves as Secretary for the NASW Committee of Chapter Presidents.  She is also the current Secretary of the South Carolina Counseling Association (SCCA).   

Before working at Limestone University, and now Winthrop  University, she served as an Assistant Professor of Counseling and as the Counseling Program Coordinator for Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Center for Graduate Studies of Columbia, SC and as a Counselor for Palmetto Place Children & Youth Services.  As Co-Founder of the South Carolina Career Development Association (SCCDA), in 2021, she co-authored and published Gaining Cultural Competence in Career Counseling (2ndedition) with Dr. Kathy Evans, her mentor from UofSC.   

Dr. Sejuit is an Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) veteran who served with the 203D MI BN in the 513th MI BDE (INSCOM) in Baghdad, Iraq as an Intelligence Analyst and earned the Joint Service Achievement Medal (JSAM) among other awards.  She is also a Co-Founder of the Veterans Alumni Council (VAC) at the University of South Carolina.  Dr. Sejuit is also Co-Founder and Secretary for the Friends of Fisher House-Columbia, SC at the WJB Dorn VA Hospital and is the Assistant Volunteer & Events Coordinator for the 9/11 Remembrance Foundation of South Carolina.  She is currently Vice Chair of the Transfer Committee in the Junior League of South Carolina (JLC) and served as Chair of the ABCs Committee for two years prior to that.

Ken Yamashiro

Web Design & Digital Exposure

Ken has participated in South Carolina 9/11 Remembrance events since 2011, and has contributed in various ways each year. As founder of local digital marketing agency Mountain Castle Media, Ken handles the Foundation's Web Design and Digital Exposure.

Ken is the owner of South Carolina's leading solar energy brokerage firm - Broker Solar. In the U.S. and Canada markets, he is the Chief Marketing Officer of “WattCrowd” - a revolutionary crowdfunding platform for utility scale renewable projects.

Ken obtained his FAA Part107 UAS License at 19, and now provides commercial drone services to the entire Southeast Region of the U.S. through his third company, Palmetto Drone Co.
